And we hope this will be the best conference yet!  So join in the fun and book your place to attend Conference Brochure.

📅 Date: Friday, 7th March 2025
📍 Venue: Dunadry Hotel, Antrim

Time Travel Through the Crystal Labyrinth

Inspired by the science fiction novel ‘The Time Machine’ from 1895, we will discuss the different strategies used over the last 25 years to:

  • Fight against inequality;
  • Make use of technology; and
  • Spark a revolution for change.

What The Conference Will Show

  1. Better Support and Services: There are now more services available to help people with a learning disability. This means better access to healthcare, education, and support to living independently in the community.
  2. Increased Awareness and Inclusion: Society has become more aware of the needs of people with a learning disability. This helps greater acceptance and efforts for inclusion as equal and visible citizens.
  3. Stronger Legal Protections: New laws and policies have been put in place to protect the rights of people with a learning disability.  This ensures they are treated fairly and with respect.
  4. More Opportunities: There are now more opportunities for people with a learning disability to take part in education, work, and social activities.  This helps them to lead fuller, more meaningful lives.
  5. Use of Technology: Advances in technology have made it easier for people with a learning disability to communicate, learn, and access services.  This improves their overall quality of life.

Morning workshop sessions will show technology that helps:

  • Communication
  • Safety
  • Independence
  • Information & Influence
  • Service Delivery

And in the afternoon there will be a cross-departmental panel explaining what the NI Government is doing to help people with a learning disability, autism and other support needs lead full and meaningful lives.  At the same time, workshops designed for people supported will run, focusing on:

  • Relaxation
  • Creativity
  • Fun and joy

What The Conference Will Achieve

Anticipated outcomes include:

  • Assessment of Progress: A clear understanding of past and current developments in services and supports, and identified trends, milestones and gaps.
  • Lessons Learned: Insights into what strategies and approaches have succeeded or failed and why.
  • Shared Goals: A unified understanding of desired outcomes and the principles guiding future action.
  • Graphic Recount: A graphically facilitated record of discussions, actions outlining next steps, priorities, and responsibilities for achieving the shared vision.

You will also have the chance to meet existing friends and make new ones.  And everyone will benefit from listening to all the different experiences in the room.

Let’s make this conference a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and community spirit. We can’t wait to see you so book your place now!
